Some sample reviews of the books above:
Book 1: “This humble yet powerful book challenges you -- to allow confusion to exist without trying to force clarity. It opens the possibility that not forcing a decision is something worthwhile, something to be cultivated. The book nailed what I’ve sensed for a long time, but hadn’t quite articulated, that it is the lack of spaciousness on multiple levels that inhibits clear thinking. I stumbled upon this book as I googled one night recently when I couldn’t sleep, and I’ve read it several times over since then. Highly recommended…” —DB
“This book is clever and very approachable (e.g., jargon-free style, props for the use of the word "poop," etc.). The author provides refreshingly experiential accounts of confusion. It is clear the premise is of a deeper origin, though the work is bereft of religious or spiritual plight. I was pleased with the result and will read it again...and again. A good book for those comfortable with mindfulness, contemplative psychology, and similar areas. It took little time to *digest* and continues to yield rich fertilizer for future work.”
Book 2: “There is an odd satisfaction that comes from reading a clear-eyed description of a commonplace emotion or experience. We think we know the feelings of frustration, anger, and impatience well. We feel them almost every day, don’t we? But when these feelings are slowly peeled apart and examined before our eyes, it is both mesmerizing and delightful. Each step of the examination feels familiar, yet the conclusion is completely new…” —Amazon customer
Book 3: “Suffice to say, this has been my favorite installment of the three... This is probably the heart of why so many individuals have such a hard time staying with difficult emotions. There's an expression these days called "fear of missing out (FOMO)," which is exactly what this book speaks to. You may find yourself challenging some interesting vices, cravings, needs, etc., on your way through this book. A treasure for those considering a contemplative approach, but will also prove very useful for those hoping to add to their self-help toolkit.”
Book 4: “I don't think I can write a review that would do this book (or the series) justice. Part of the "problem" with a short book like this is that there are profound insights on every single page, so I ended up highlighting and bookmarking practically the entire book! What I love most about the author's discussion of each topic is that his insights are so unique and different from typical self-help ideas; and they are not just different for the sake of being different. They pack in a lot more wisdom and yet get straight to the point. I really applaud the author for his unique insights. I would never have thought to look at loneliness in the way he's identified, which runs contrary to what may be an unintentionally simplistic narrative underlying well-intentioned discussions on the epidemic of loneliness in modern society. Although short and beautifully clear, this book requires multiple readings to fully unpack the gems contained in Yuichi's writing - its brevity is an asset in this regard. Highly recommended!” —D.
Book 5: “I cannot recommend this book enough, not only for its pleasing style and practical results, but for its quiet wisdom in these challenging times. It's one I'll return to again and again.” —Marie Ink
Contemplative Meditation: “Quite a comprehensive guide to building a meditation practice, beneficial to new and seasoned meditators alike. I like the idea of “building” a practice, which the author teaches here in a smartly organized and clearly presented manner. The meditation structure itself is taught in the context of Buddhist tradition, but the content seems universal and easily applicable to many paths.
I like the author’s personal approach and teaching style, he offers a gentle and steady hand. This book has so much to offer here, and I wish I had come across a resource like this when I first started fumbling around with meditation years ago.” —J.Swanson
“This book couldn’t have come to my life at a better time, just when a lot of things in started to fall apart, and I started exploring meditation as a way to find peace of mind in the face of change and loss… Even though other books gave me answers and I gained important insights from them, none gave me a comprehensive, and yet simple guide to apply the teachings to my own life every day. That’s where I think the genius of this book lies: the emphasis in the daily practice and the incremental but consistent approach towards it. When I started, I could not sit still for even 2 minutes, anxiety was rampant, peace of mind -rare. But this book takes you step by step, from sitting still one minute, to two minutes, to three, and so forth, until you can meditate for... What? Wait. Did I just meditate for 21 minutes?!! This 12-week program makes it a pleasure to “build” a practice over time, little by little, and in an almost effortless way. Which in turn has been about the best thing I’ve ever done for myself- and also for those around me.” —Tania
